FASTER. FAIRER. BETTER.

Thanks to Prostate Cancer UK supporters, our campaign launch event in Westminster last week was a BIG success!

We spoke to dozens of MPs about our programme for government - Faster. Fairer. Better. - and that’s thanks to the nearly 5,000 supporters who took action by contacting their local MP about our campaign. Together, our message for change reached 98% of MPs across the country.

And, this week we were pleased to hear the Minister of State for Care, Stephen Kinnock MP, commit to further investment in raising awareness of prostate cancer.

But work doesn't stop there - because the current system continues to fail men. It's unjust, it's unfair, and it's time to put an end to it. We need to make the system for diagnosing prostate cancer FASTER. FAIRER. BETTER.

FASTER. Free and simple adjustments can be made to increase MRI capacity while delivering enhanced image quality and supporting better diagnosis.
FAIRER. Proactively informing men who are at the highest risk of prostate cancer about PSA testing can reduce prostate cancer deaths in the UK.
BETTER. The ground-breaking research trial, TRANSFORM, will deliver the gold-plated evidence needed to save the lives of thousands of men each year.

The facts:

  • Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men in the UK.
  • Only 53% of prostate cancers are caught in the early stages, falling short of the NHS target of 75%.
  • Black men face twice the risk of diagnosis (1 in 4), compared to other men (1 in 8).
  • Men from deprived areas are 29% more likely to be diagnosed with late-stage prostate cancer, which is harder to treat.

Without a screening programme, and often no symptoms in the early stages, detecting prostate cancer early requires proactive action. Currently, men can request a free PSA blood test from their GP, but GPs are recommended not to raise the issue of PSA testing with men unless they have symptoms.

This is a crucial moment for the new government to stick to its commitment to earlier prostate cancer diagnosis and to saving men’s lives.
